Rolfs' Easter Diary 2006
Easter Festival Day 3 of 3
Having spend the remaining 4 hours of yesterday match with just 1 Carp, you can imagine how impressed I was to blow Peg 17 by spraying pellet early and take just 1 fish in today's match for a frustrating 8lb that resulted in me packing up after 4 hours in a bid to beat the traffic on the M4. Gary Thorpe on the other hand continued his fine form to make it a hat-trick of match wins with the first 200lb+ net of fish of 2006 at Rolfslake. Gary looked unstoppable all day and added fish throughout the 5 hours fishing shallow on the in form Peg 14. Mike Stimson had a great day on Peg 24 for a section win to make up for his single fish the previous day from Peg 15! On Peg 7 John Walker converted a decent draw into a section win and found himself in the top 4 and the last of the festival 'brown' envelops. In 15 hours of match fishing, I had about 12 hours without bites! I can't wait for the warmer weather and I guess I need to have a good think about my whole approach to commercial match venues - I'm going back to the punch, squatt and bloodworm fishing I love next winter. As for this summer, I'm taking up Golf! A big well done to Gary and Russell Alexander, who drew Peg 34 and took the only Ton plus weight from the peg, but fell short of a section win and consequently took runners up spot. Many Thanks to Rolf for hosting the event and to my mate Andy Johnstone for running a tight ship. The 15 Anglers that did attend enjoyed a fine weekend, even if the fishing was a little hit and miss. It was nice to see John Harrison take a big weight from Peg 4 after a terrible few days for the peg and Johns' bottom lip was all a quiver at the draw bag... but Rolf has said the peg was solid; and he was right! again! |
