Rolfs' Easter Diary 2006
Easter Festival Day 1
Having travelled up from Bristol the on Good Friday, I was pleased to finally get through the Heavy Rain to find Rolfs Lake basking in Spring sunshine. Even better there were a few fish around too. No wanting to look a gift horse in the mouth, I decided to make and test a few rigs - that's if I could get a bite! To cut a short story dead in in tracks, I spend 1 hour making some rings and about 4 hours playing Carp; Big Carp!
With the Festival under-sold, Rolfs 'best' pegs were in the draw bag for an individual draw on the first day. For the remaining days, each angler would fish a different section in rotation and staying with his original section 'buddies' as he did so. The meant that every one got to fish the Car Park Bank, Motorway Bank and Little Lake. Given the great day I had yesterday, and water temp up to 52 Deg, I can bring you all up to speed by saying that John Bennett took one fish from 37 for 5 hours fishing and I struggled for over 3 1/2 hours without a fish on Peg 24, I was convinced that I was looking directly down the barrel of a dry net from a great peg! I did have a mini recovery to take 49lb 12oz with 9 fish on the 16m line with Bread and 14.5m on the Paste! Gary Thorpe fished a great match on the meat and pellet. Drawn on Peg 32, Gary fished back towards 33&8 and fished in the channel for 115lb 4oz. A total of 75lb of his weight was made up from 10 weighers. Same old Gary. Russell Alexander, like myself, had an awful start to the match, but had taken a few Carp and a Bream of 6lb 8oz on Worm over Banana Pellet. However, it was a switch to Hair Rigged Bread that sparked his peg into life. A quick sprint to the end resulted in a fine section win but fell short by 1 fish off catching Gary and ended in second place. Matt Nudd took the remaining section win with 97lb 8oz from fancied peg 9. Matt fished Pellet and Meat and caught fish throughout the 5 hours for his near Ton Up bag. I can't help wishing for a better day on Easter Sunday! can it get any worse? |
