Easter Festival Day 1 [Easter Saturday]

Day One of the 2009 Easter festival was greeted with good anticipation following a string of big weights in the matches building up to the start of the traditional Easter 3 Match Series at the Oxfordshire Complex. As with all years a top quality field including last years festival winner Matt Smith will make for a great festival.

The key was going to be a good draw, a large amount of skill, and a bit of luck to be in with a chance on the final day.

The festival is run over three days with each angler drawing on day one their fellow anglers and which sequence of sections they will have {A-B-C OR B-C-A etc}. The winner in each section gets 7 points down to last place in section who gets 1 point but they have to weigh –in to get the point. In the event of a tie on weight in a section the anglers will share the combined points, and the overall winner of the festival will be the angler with the most points and in the event of a tie will be decided on weight count back.

Today saw a great start to the festival with an overcast day with no wind unlike last year’s first day the anglers were hoping for a good start with a few points on the board to get their festival challenge under way.

Rolfslake as usual fished great in sections B and C but the unpredictable A section usually is the section that can make or break your festival as was the case today. In first place today was last year’s winner Matt Smith who fished a great match considering the quality of anglers around him and returned a weight of 236-12 for 7 points closely followed by Dave Harpin on peg 21 with 207-00. In total there were 2 weights over 200lb and 9 weights over 100lb {with one of the 100lb weights coming from A section well done Mark}.
