Rolfs Diary:
25 Jan 2009 [Open]
With the lake frozen twice in the last week the anglers gathered at the draw were expecting a tough day , with a draw on the car park bank a must. The reason for this was that the fish normally hide in the deep water when it is very cold ,and it is slightly warmer for the anglers as it shields them out of the wind.
The winner today was lake regular Phil Powell , who was fresh from his Team win in the winter league series with his team Rolfs team gold.
When the weather gets cold Phil is normally in the frame due to his ability at catching fish when it is very difficult and today was one of those days. Phil was fishing peg 28 on the car park bank and used a combination of the pole and the feeder, using corn and bread as hook bait and feeding very little to catch carp to 10-00 in his winning weight of 86-12 (well done Phi)
In second place was Mike Stimpson who was next to Phil on peg 30 and who exclusively fished the bomb using bread as bait.
Completing the frame was Vespe sponsored angler Pete Archer who also was next to Phil but on his other side, and who fished both the pole and feeder using corn and bread as bait but also feeding very little to catch his 8 fish for 55.-12
John informs me that there are still matches on Wednesdays and Saturdays, and if you fancy a pleasure days fishing on a Wednesday please phone for availability.
The pleasure anglers are currently catching up to 15 fish a session (up to 16lb) using a variety of methods and baits but corn and mini boilies are taking the most fish.
