With the lake in near perfect condition for this time of year ,the anglers gathered at the draw were hoping for a great days fishing. The dynamic duo of Phil Powell and Mick Lane were back at the lake today after spending last week at White Acres ,and today was hopefully going to be a return to super bagging mode {or not see end of report}.

John Walker last month
After arriving late for the draw {AGAIN} Jon Walker had his peg drawn for him, and was not to pleased to be told that it was going to be the big lake and peg 18 for his days fishing. Most of the anglers would of swapped their peg with Jon as peg 18 has been in great form, so were quite surprised at his comments.
After 5 hours fishing {struggling for bites} came our winner today ,who was a Rolfslakes angler would you believe it ,Jon Walker who fished the margins to his left at a range of 6 mtrs and a further margin line to his left at a range of 13 mtrs.
Jon was fishing against the big bush that runs between pegs 18 and 19 just past the first shelf and laying up the shelf, using today a combination of Yorkshire Baits Company's 8mm natural hooker pellets, and also their Kopy Kat paste, feeding about 3 bags of feed pellets. Jon told me that the fish were sporadic and that he had to keep tweaking his methods to keep the fish coming for his weight of 346-04 and a deserved win {poor Jon sounds like a hard days fishing to me}.
In second place today was the magician aka John Bennett who was fishing one of his favorite pegs ,peg 9 and had both Mike Stimson and Ian McCulloch watching to see if they could learn a few tricks from him. John today was using only corn as his hook bait but feeding quite heavy with the lakes feed pellet, fishing just past the big bush to his right in the deeper water for his weight of 204-04. During the match both Mike and Ian were amazed to watch John catch fish when they never saw the the float go under {clever trick John}. Completing the frame was Derek Hammond who was fishing inform peg 6 and fished at short range 7mtrs ,using a combination of pellet hook baits and feeding pellets for his weight of 174-04
The lake fished well for this time of year with 1 x 300lb 1 x 200lb and 7 x 100lb + weights ,but at the bottom of the pile today were two of the most successful anglers at the lake in the shape of Phil Powell and Mick Lane who fished pegs 32 and 34, and who were last seen speeding away from the lake before the others could give them some stick.
Developments down on the lake have been the repairing of peg 3 and 11 and the installation of Oxfords version of the Blackpool illuminations as John has installed lights to help people get safely back to the carpark as the nights draw in.
News on Rolf is that he is feeling much better and hopes to be out of hospital very soon ,so keep smiling chap and we anglers hope to see you down the lake.
