Rolfs' Diary 2007
Spring League Match 5 of 6 Fished 11am til 4pm Heavy rain, gusting wins and England Cricket doing well in a test match that has been halted by the weather - Yes, It's bank holiday weekend in the UK! It seems that we're paying for the good weather in April with an extra horrid wet and windy Whitsunday Bank Holiday, and it looks like Rolfslake has taken the worst of the lot.
John Walker on the Scales Given the heavy weather, there was a glimmer sunshine from Rolfslake team Gold who regained the crown they lost to Rolfs Team Diamond this winter. Not even the heavy rain could wash the smile of team Captain John Bennett's face. A popular and deserved winning captain at that. The top weight on the day was contested by Larry Lane, Fisherman's Friend, drew peg 19 with 208lb 8oz and Phil Powell, Rolfs Team Gold, Peg 14, who had taken 205lb 8oz. Larry fished the bar at 7m with Meat over Pellet, the shorter line proved key with Phil fishing 14m+. Elsewhere, the lake was very patchy with weights coming from only the most reliable pegs; John Hague on 13 and Steve Wilson on 34 both recorded outstanding sections wins on a very difficult day. Once again a good league has passed with all anglers enjoying some great sport in less that greeting conditions. With the Summer League due to start in a few weeks, let's hope the weather improves.
