Rolfs' Diary 2007
Wednesday Open John Bennett took an unfancied win from Peg 13 in the Wednesday Open at Rolfslake this afternoon. With Peg 24's domination in recent weeks, not a single angler would have predicted that sleeping giant peg 13 would awaken so early in spring to produce a winning weight for local angler and Rolfslake Gold Team Captain John Bennett..
Bill Galt (Fisherman's Friend) with a 20lb Common. John took his haul of 137lb 8oz's on waggler and luncheon meat tactics fished shallow at 14m over pellet. The waggler offers a quick shallow method at the moment that doesn't spook the fish - the waggler has only just bee introduced following a lengthy bad at the venue. John took full advantage of some fish in the top layers of the water and recorded a fine win. The car park side of the lake struggled for fish, although Mick Jones fished his already customary short 6m line with pellet and l/meat for a fine 115lb 8oz from a very 'fickle' peg 24. It worthy of note that peg 23 struggled for bites as did most of Mick's bank, accordingly a well deserved 2nd place and only other ton of the day.
