With the popular Wednesday matches now continuing later into the year ,the chance of some winter big carp bagging has lured some new faces down to the lake. With the attendances now around the 15 mark on a consistent basis ,the regulars now have some challenges to cope with, not only with the quality of anglers but with the changing weather to test their skills.

With this in mind the anglers wanted to draw on the motorway bank as the big weights had been comming from this side in recent weeks, but also in the big lake as the shallow lake was a bit hit and miss at the moment due to the water being colder .

Today saw a battle from  three of the top regulars who had all drawn good form pegs in 6,13 and 18 and were going to be kept busy this afternoon. In first place today was the margin master himself Colin Wedgebrow who had drawn AGAIN inform peg 18 for the third time in four weeks {i wish he was as lucky at drawing my lottery numbers as he is at drawing peg numbers} so setting up was only going to take about 10 minutes as he has all the rigs set up for this peg. Colin employed his usual short range 6-7 mtrs fishing to the bush to his left ,and a 3 mtr line to the bush to his right .

Colin also today revised his feeding plan, as at Rolfs when it starts to get colder a more refined feeding is required as the fish do not like lots of bait thrown on top of them, so today was going to be a cup only day. Colin fished the bush to his left for most of the day just down the first ledge ,fishing a combination of corn and banded 8mm pellets for his weight of 283-04 and a deserved win. In second place and fishing next to me on peg 6 was Rolfslake angler Mick Lane who today found out the pleasures of short range fishing at 6 mtrs. Mick fished just past the first ledge in the shallow lake again cupping his bait for accuracy using a combination of corn and pellet hookbaits, which brought him a good run of double figure fish late in the match in his weight of 256-04. Completing the frame was the corn master John Bennett who was fishing peg 13 in the big lake, and instead of fishing the bush to his right in the shallow water decided to fish 5-6 mtrs out in front in the deeper water using corn and pellet for his weight of 225-08

The small lake is fishing very well at the moment ,with pegs 4,6,7,8, all capable of winning a match with pegs 9,16 and 18 in the big lake the only pegs in with a chance. Corn is the most consistent bait at the moment, but you will have to keep moving the bait to entice bites. More big fish {fish to 18lb} are showing in weights as they pack weight on for the winter so be prepared.

The lake is still having quite a bit of repair work being done to some of the older platforms ,and some pegs that have been unused for a while have been totally rebuilt i.e pegs 3 and 5 in the small lake ,so it will be interesting to see how they fish when they get drawn.

John has to be carefull when turning on the lake lights at the end of the match as the pilots now think that this is a new runway at Heathrow Airport as you can see them going around the lake at night.

There will be an update of the weekend match calender for the remaining part of the year so please check this out if you fancy some end of year bagging , and also the winter league dates and draw times.
