Rolfs' Diary 2007
Easter Monday Mick Lane took the first 300lb+ weight of Spring 2007 in the Easter Monday Open. Fishing from the red hot peg 24, Mick took fish from the off on a shallow waggler with Corn and Pellet hookbait's over loosefed pellet. The key was spraying plenty of pellet to keep the fish interested.
Match Winner - Mick Lane on the Waggler (Peg 24) Elsewhere Rob Kite on Peg 15 took 183lb 4oz on the winter tactic of bread fished shallow or on the drop, as the fish are now turning to pellet the bread will become less and less effective - however it will always provide a backing weight or a good change bait in summer. Rob fished a long pole and also kept the fish milling around with a few pellet offerings. Mick Jones, Rolfslake, fished short 6m on the deck and fed heavy pellet to keep the fish there. Mick took a fine 159lb for 3rd place in a match with now fewer than 5 Ton Plus weights with Phil Powell and Larry Liang the other anglers to break the 100lb barrier. Peg 24 has been in fine form recently and with the waggler and feeder rods allowed, it is expected the peg will continue to dominate as the summer progresses - the bar at 16+m is a haven for the Carp who tend to hold out in big numbers as the lake warms. Peg 23 will also feature as the bar at 18m will also be in play. Expect some big weights from Pegs 21, 20, 19 and 18 too! |
