With the day a little overcast and cooler that the previous week, it was going to take a thinking angler to sort out what was going to be the best method on the day. The talk in the car park before the draw was about the best baits to use today {corn or pellet } and whether the small lake was the best place to be drawn.

After my piece of glory in coming third on Wednesday I today decided to fish, instead of watching and taking photos for a change. Rolf continues to feel better and hopes to be home next weekend, so it was good news to start the day.

Ian McCulloch

Rolf fishing back in March.. We hope to see him soon

In a very close match  that was to be decided by only one fish seperating the top 3 { and a frame that did not have the usual suspects in} it was about who kept their cool and not crack under pressure.

In first place today was Ton UP Baits sponsored angler Colin Storey who was fishing the small lake on peg 6, and who chose to fish a short line 6-7 mtrs out in front fishing on the deck and using a combination of pellet hookbaits and corn and feeding pellet. Colin caught fish to double figures for a on the board weight of 75-00 in his weight of 218-12 and a deserved win , just in front of the chasing pack. In second place and fishing next to me on peg 18 in the big lake was Ian McCulloch who was flying at the start ,fishing down the margins to his left at a range of 8 mtrs.

During the match Ian alternated between the pole and the feeder ,using corn and pellet hookbaits but found bites hard to come by in the fourth hour which probably cost him a match win. Ian in the last hour swapped to the bush to his right , catching big fish in his on the board weight of 112-00 in his final weight of 216-12. Completing the frame and kicking himself for losing a fish of about 15lb at the net ,which cost him a match win and a personal best was me Eddie T Green. Today i was fishing next to Ian on peg 16 and fished two lines, one fishing the bush to my left at 4 mtrs fishing corn, but my main plan of attack was to fish Yorshire Bait Companys Kopy Kat paste at a range of 7mtrs. The bites using this paste were so positive as the fish really homed in and buried the float every time,  i also used a Jon Walker prototype self cocking paste float which worked a treat, giving really good bite indications every time. I like Ian also had a quiet mid match spell but also caught big fish to 14-08 in my on the board weight of 108-00 out of my total weight of 208-04.

The lake continues to fish well on the motorway bank from both ends ,with the last hour and a half of the match being the most productive. The carp park bank is fishing hard at the moment and all pegs that have a margin feature to fish to should be fed throughout the match ,as with the water temperature still warm the fish are still happy to feed there.

As the nights draw in please check the draw times as they will start to get earlier from mid October.
