Fishing 2pm til 7pm - Reporter ETG

After the 2 day weekend match fished by the Maggot Drowners last weekend http://www.xanga.com/PeterMorton1, fished by over 30 anglers including resident expert Pete Archer and superstar angling pundit Keith Arthur, it was back to normal for the midweek open fished by the usual suspects plus a few new faces.

After the monster weight of 457-00 from super peg 15 ten days ago it was decided to put it back into the drawbag for one lucky angler. As the draw commenced and the thought of a great days fishing ahead i have never seen the anglers so quick to the draw queue to pick their peg. The angler with the lucky draw hand today was Barry Morgan and off he went to his peg with the widest smile seen at Rolfslake in ages.

The thing that makes this peg so good ,is without peg 16 in the draw you have basically a bay all to yourself and a very long margin peg ,but beware you could spend all day chasing the fish that come up in the margins to feed off the silt.

Barry today had a plan of fishing at long range at 14 mtr's and later in the match down the edge to his left feeding heavy to get the fish confidently feeding , using a combination of pellet and paste hookbait's. After foul hooking a few fish Barry got into a rhythm that would see him catch for most of the match with the customary double figure fish that live in this peg for a super weight  of 320-00 and a deserved win. In second place was Rolfs Team Gold angler Phil Powell who was warming up for the weekends final round of the summer league. Phil was drawn on another in form peg , peg 32 which he fished with his assortment of shallow rigs between 1ft and 3ft which he swapped around during the match, fishing 6-8mm pellet and meat hookbait's. Fishing next to Phil as i was is not good for your neck , as he caught 10 consecutive double fish for an on the board weight of 163-12 in his total weight of 294-12 and only 3 fish off a match win.

Completing the frame was Spro sponsored angler Lloyd Moss ,who had a very close personal match against John Bennett on peg 8. Lloyd was fishing peg 7 at 8 mtr's up in the water again feeding heavy with pellet, and later changed to 3 mtr's against the grass to his right , fishing pellet and paste for a weight of 244-12 and an enjoyable days fishing.

I spoke to Rolf the other day and he continues to raise a smile through all the treatments he is having, and he enjoyed the company of the Maggot Drowners last weekend

Book Early for Wednesday Opens to avoid disappointment.

With Water levels still high, anglers are fishing on the steps down to the platforms. Water levels should drop away over the coming days with little rain forecast.
