Rolfs' Diary 2006
Wednesday Open The Wednesday Opens continue to improve and today was no exception. With settled weather and fish enjoying a break from spawning there was every chance of a big weight. Phil Powell and Peg 32 provided the best of the action with one of the best match weights of the year for the Rolfslake matchman.
Phil Powell took full advantage of Peg 32 by fishing shallow towards the far side at the maximum aloud pole length of 16m. Although his weight fell just short of a magical treble ton it was enough to push Mick Lane (Swindon Tackle) in second place with 283lb against Mick's total of 233lb. Phil fished a 6mm pellet on the hook and fed Freedom Feeds fishmeal free pellet to keep the fish coming for the full 5 hours. Backing weights are rapidly improving as the fish settle down from spawning with Tony Troth taking the 3rd place with 167lb. The Wednesday Opens are a permanent fixture at Rolfslake.
