Rolfs' Diary 2006
Wednesday Open . The weights were fantastic in this Wednesday's Open. Having reported on hundreds of matches for Rolf over the last four years, I'm sure I've never seen so many Double Ton up Weights? I can remember John Lees coming 17th with 104lb, but that day there were a lot of big Tons and an few Doubles. I guess the tickets for next weeks Open will be going like hot cakes?
In the match itself, Phil Powell took a commanding win from peg 37 - fishing the 'Vogue' line under peg 38 for a fine 329lb 12oz, just 9lb ahead of Mick Lane on peg 26, who sprayed his way to 320lb 4oz. Spare a thought for John Bennett, 294lb 12oz and Rob Kite 293lb 8oz - who must have thought they'd done enough to win most matches - but that's Rolfs I guess. In total there were 13 Ton up weights as more and more fish start to come to the paste.
