Rolfs' Diary 2006
Wednesday Open
The lake has quickly recovered from the poor sport witnessed last weekend to produce a number of good weights in the Wednesday Open. Nick Bryan found plenty of fish at the 'unpopular' peg 22 for a near double ton and a deserved match win.
Nick Bryan - Champion Baits Peg 22 is a rare entrant into the draw bag, and is often met with groans of disapproval if draw. On visual inspection the Peg looks like an out and out flyer! It has a number of bushes on the inside and a good ledge under these features for fish to browse for food against to their hearts content. It's just a case that the fish are not use to finding fish there because the peg is such an infrequent visitor to Rolf's 'Little Yellow Bag!' - I'm sure it'll be in there more often now? Nick fished paste tight to the bushes on the right hand side (back towards the corner) to find a number of fish well into double figures for his winning weight of 190lb 4oz. Fishing Paste at 6m was key for Rob Kite (Good Hope AC) on Peg 28. Rob also took fish well into double figures for runners up spot with a fine 160lb 8oz. Cammeron Simms (Littlemore AC) took 3rd place from peg 30 and competed the hat-trick of Paste weights fishing at 8m. Elsewhere, a little slow going as the lake water conditions continue to recover from difficult conditions. The fish will naturally start to back off the feed as the temperatures start to drop away below 15 deg (which is mostly at night for the time!) Expect the fish to come on even harder than normal in the closing stages of the match. Heavy feed in the 3rd hour should pay dividends to those brave enough to heed the Fishery Owners advice. Rolf still has space for one more team of 3 for the initial Winter League (running up to the New Year - check out the dates on the results pages or the Opens menu) If you could field a team give Rolf a call on his mobile asap. Can anyone stop Rolf's Team Gold from winning again? |
