Rolfs' Diary 2006
Winter League (Final Results) In a winter league that was blighted with bad weather, it was fitting that the final Sunday was punctuated with spells of extended spring sun for those and for those on noted pegs enjoyed a reasonable days fishing. However, it was a very different story for those in the dreaded shallow lake that had failed to produce any fish other that 'eye-ball' perch for the last few matches.
The now 'dreaded' A section was won with an equaled 1oz between Dave Frame and Pete Good. It would be easy to write this report saying it was a hard section, but that would be very understated. Pete Good's 1oz was the difference between Zero and 10 Points, and effectively won the league for GOT Red Lion. Although, Loyd Moss fished a tight and tidy match for his win, he did nothing else that any other would have on that peg today; and I mean that with the greatest of respect to Loyd - you still have to catch the fish. Loyd got his feed right at the start and the following 5hrs was as easy as shelling peas, so share a thought for the anglers back in the small lake. In one half of the lake there was anglers catching on black hydro and in the other half the likes of Matt Nutt spent total of 5hours spent fishing as hard as one can given the odds of actually getting a bite! On a positive note, the winter league had been well ran, mostly thanks to the admin of John Bennett, additionally the lake had been prepared in some of the worst conditions I can remember for a complete series of matches, and Rolf did a great job of keeping the venue open. I've watched with interest to see top anglers such a Andy Johnstone and Matt Nutt struggle week in week out without complaint nor reward. Maybe the Easter Festival will shine on those who deserve a break, but I'm sure it will punish those that don't draw well - so don't worry Andy and Matt I'm sure you'll be fine.......Not even I could draw that badly for that long! Many thanks to all those anglers fishing the winter league and a even bigger thanks to all those that helped out. |
