Rolfs' Diary 2006
Wednesday Open . As usual the Wednesday Open was a real fire cracker of a match. Fisherman's Friend Matchman and Rolfslake regular Colin Wedgebrow took 270lb+ for 5th place as the venue goes from strength to strength.
Colin's recent returns of mostly 250lb+ weights reflect his style / method at Rolfs and underlines the confidence Colin has in fishing at 5m with Hard 8mm Hooker Pellet over very generous helpings of loose feed. It doesn't always work, but you'll see Colin up there in the frame more often than not. The real big story this Wednesday was the return of the 'prodigal sons' Russell Alexander and Norman Youlden. Traveling partners who migrate up from the 'deep' south east managed a Van total of 720lb with a first and second place - Russell won with 385lb fishing paste at Peg 13 and Norm' took runners up at peg 14 spraying pellet at 14.5m. I've a feeling the pair may be back sooner rather than later? Let hope so guy's it was good to see a few 'Old' faces on the lake. The Good Hope based matchmen continue to return 'Good' weights with 6 anglers in the top 15, Rob Kite on peg 34 took the best of the GH returns with a fine 298lb fishing paste at 5m for 5th place. On a note on how the venue is fishing - this email from ETG to myself sums up the madness that is Rolfslake: " Lloyd, You will have to try and get down to the lake and have a go, as to weigh over 100lb and come last is a wierd sensation. Anyway just for information over the last 6 weeks Bill Golt and myself have been serching for the holy grail of a 200lb weight, and then damm Bill gets it first with 202lb well done Bill. Then all of a sudden I became the only angler not to weigh 200lb at the lake on a wednesday. 3 weeks later i got it, 208lb "done you Bill" i thought! That's until last Wednesday WHEN he gets 302lb - a new personal best and beats my best by 100lb. Fantastic weight Bill i really mean it, the great thing about the Wednesday matches is, apart from great company and a good laugh, everyone is trying to help eachother to beat their personal best every match , and someone might win the match! It's really is total madness down on the lake at the moment- you have to catch nearly 400lb to win, nearly 200lb above my new personal best, not a bad way to spend an afternoon? Eddie T.G take care.
