Chris
Davies (Prestwood and District)
Chris
Davies (Prestwood and Dist) topped the field in this weekends
Saturday open at Rolfslake. Not put off by the freezing conditions,
the local angler was drawn on Peg 15 where he fished mostly
between 14.5 and 16m for his winning return of 74lb 12oz.
Chris fished sweetcorn over sweetcorn and a few pellets for
his popular win. Just 2 pegs and 12oz's behind Chris was TUB
backed lake expert Gary Thorpe.
Gary
Thorpe (TUB)
Drawn
on Peg 17, Gary fished with mostly maggot at 14/16m and pushed
Chris all the way to the final whistle but ended up just 12oz
off the pace. Just one fish behind the top two was Dave Hawkins
on Peg 24, Dave joined Gary in the use of Maggot and was rewarded
with the last place in the frame with 68lb.
Elsewhere
The
use of maggot was worthy of note. No fewer than 3 of the top
5 switched to the bait. Maggot are normally reserved for the
traditional silver fish bashing, but in an attempt to draw
the Carp some of the anglers switched with good success. With
sweetcorn and bread banned on 1st March until next winter
will we see a change to maggot? I'm
not sure. The Carp should switch back to the pellet
when the water warms in Mid March, from then Paste will be
the bait again, but until then.... could Maggot make a difference?
time will tell. |
