With floaters not enough feed is going into the lake and as such Rolf has banned using all floating baits as from the end of the Month (to compensate Rolf is going to allow one 300gm Tin of Luncheon Meat and one tin of Sweetcorn - Meat should be of a low fat (less than 10gms per 100gms) Plumrose is about the best both for fishing and the fish. If abused, the meat may be withdrawn.
Plenty of fish to had around the lake. Feeding well following a week of spawning. Expect weights to go up as the Carp switch to Paste and fish can be caught closer and quicker.
Lee Thornton
(Dick Clegg M1 Sensas)
268lb Peg 4
With the lake fishing well on most pegs, it was no surprise that Peg 4 once again has thrown up a huge weight of 268lb for Lee Thornton to win the Sunday Open at Rolfslake.
Lee Thornton (Dick Clegg M1 Sensas) set about putting together the massive total (the second highest this year) with a number of Carp into double figures on Paste at 14m from Corner Peg 4. Although paste had yet to make an impression since the weather started to get warm, it was only a matter of time.
With approximately 45 fish to 12lb, the Dick Clegg M1 Sensas angler added his name to those with double tons from the lake with 68lb to spare! A good Sunday's match fishing in anyone's book.
Ginger
(Shimano Tipton VDE)
257lb 12oz Peg 14
Rolfslake is one of the very few venues in the country that you can put 257lb on the scales and consistently not win the match. This was the unfortunate case for Ginger today on Peg 14. At the end of 5hrs and about ten weighs at the Scales was just 11lb that split the top 2 anglers.
Ginger fished 14m with sprayed pellet and fished at 10 inches deep to take the bumper weight. Again, with fish to 12lb the total soon adds. Ginger used 4mm feed pellet and 6mm Pellet on the hook.
Colin Wedgbrow
(Slapheads)
186lb 4oz Peg 15
There rarely seems to be a Sunday without Colin framing at Rolfslake and today was no exception. Fishing from Peg 15 Colin tackled the peg with loose fed 4mm Pellet and fished with Chum Mixer on the hook - (Oh, this was the last time you can use any floating baits in an Open Match) See Elsewhere for details of new baits allowed on hook and feed.
For the record Colin fished at 14.5 and 16m with a long line to the mixer and 'Mugged ' the fish as they cruised around for their Sunday Lunch.

With a Ton in the net the drive back to Milton Keynes would have been much the sweeter.

Without the wind pushing into Peg 34 going can be a little slow. Although 150lb is OK?

Ginger
(Shimano Shipton VDE)
Runner up with a net busting weight. Not a bad day's fishing for second place.
John Bennett
(Swindon)
Yet Another Ton for Swindon based matchman John Bennett.
The Wedgbrow's

Not many weekends go by without one of the Wedgbrow's in the frame - Colin Left and Peter on the right (just!)
Did
you fish this match and I've missed out (or messed up!) some of the details?
