REVIEW

Rolfslake Match Fishing Carp Winner

Winner: Dave Hawkins (Here's one I caught Earlier - Last Summer!)

Dave Christens New Pole with a Ton!

Winner Dave Hawkins - Dorchester

Personally, I made the rare trip up from Bath and finished 4th with 55lb from Peg 16, but on the day I had blown a good peg with overdoing the Pellet in the initial feed - Still, it only took 4hrs to work that out!

A strong last half hour produce about 40lb of the weight and again I went away thinking about what might have been. On reflection, and talking to the regulars after the match, I had fished too long, too early and feed far too much during the first 3.5 hours. If I could could wide the clock back and do it again, I would only pot in Sweetcorn and flick or drip a few (5-10) pellets in each or every other cast over the top for the full 5 hours. Still next time I am sure I'll under feed a good peg and go away just as frustrated - The biggest error I continue to make is not visiting the lake enough to stay in touch!

Dave Hawkins (Dorchester)

A first outing for Dave with his new Trabucco Gold Medallist 16m pole resulted in the only Ton up bag at Rolfslake in the Saturday Open. Drawn on Peg 17, Dave adopted a cautious approach to feeding from the off and benefited in a steady 4hrs fishing which produced Carp to 12lb on Single and Double Corn over potted Corn and a few Micro Pellets. A regular at the lake, Dave returned a respectable 108lb 12oz on a day when a strong NW Wind froze the angler and bent any poles into shapes expensive carbon fibre shouldn't be bent into!.

Russell Alexander (Rolfslake)

Like most of the others on the Car Park bank, the NW Wind made presentation a nightmare and the wind froze the fingers to the bone. However, Russell did manage to get a run of fish together in the 3rd, 4th and last Hours to bring 80lb 8oz to the scales - more than the rest of the combined weight of that side of the lake. Russell fished at 16m and fed a few pellets and grains of corn via a small Fox type pole pot in the difficult conditions.

Elsewhere

Gary Acock - (Banbury Gunsmith) had drawn fancied peg 14 to take 75lb for 3rd with around 15 Carp. Although Gary had a fish on before I had finished cupping in I still didn't twig on that feeding as a non starter!

"Good friend of Gary's and Lake expert Gary Thorpe jokingly suggested that Mr Acock had been spending too much time at Oakfield's and had lost touch and consequently blown a good peg! - Who need enemies hey? Gary Thorpe incidentally drew the peg next day and Won!!!"
