Drawn on the fancied Golden Peg, Eddie 'Sleepy' Taylor Green had an enjoyable day on 33 with his elastics stretched for the best part of the match. However, with most of his fish refusing to come to the net without a prolonged fight, valuable time was lost and a Golden Match win slipped through his fingers as at one stage Eddie looked odds on to convert the draw.
Fish coming to the inside line but not taking paste until the late afternoon. Expect weights to rocket next week as matches are now 2pm til 7pm until the end of Summer.
Dave Wightman
(Simons 2000)
198lb 8oz Peg 13
Drawn on the peg that held the lake record until last year, Dave Wightman (Simons 2000) took only his Trabucco Lucifer from his rod bag an concentrated on fishing tight to the bush feature to his right - he didn't need to switch to the one on his left! Dave took a number of good Carp, this was noticeable at the weigh in were he produced just short of 200lb for the scalesmen; all other weights had been made up unusually by small carp in the 3-4lb bracket. These smaller fish usually reside on the bar at Peg 14, but as I had drawn that peg today they decided to go on a Pellet binge around the lake and once again leave me scratching around for a sub 100lb weight!
Dave used a combination of 8mm hook pellet, paste and larger soft pellets on the hook and fed the swim with just a couple of bags of Ton Up Pellets, and at Rolfs knock down price of just £1.60 a bag it was a cheap day out for 200lb of fish and a good match win for the Simons 2000 angler.
Gary Thorpe
(Ton Up Baits)
148lb 4oz Peg 17
Probably the worst angler at guessing his own weight than any other I have ever met - and I've met a few with very long wooden noses! Ton Up Baits backed Gary Thorpe actually came close this week by predicting what he had - about 150lb. A fortnight ago he admitted to having around 40lb and put 150lb on the scales! ....
Gary took approximately 40 Carp, which would normally give you close to 200lb but, again like many others today the stamp of fish was amazingly small. Gary fished up in the water and fish small cubes of meat over 4mm Pellet, again only a few bags of Pellet kept the fish interested.

Great Draw and a good days match fishing for Eddie.

Tony Yianni
Hounslow
Constant feed had a lot of Carp 'boiling' in the Peg but could convert the visual fish action into fish in the net as Carp got finicky up in the water. Although, Tony still returned a belting 112lb.
.
Lloyd Rush
Trabucco
Drew peg 14 but I got caught up and pre-occupied trying to catch on Paste at 8m. Ended up fishing two lines very badly as 71lb from Peg 14 would reflect. Won't make same mistake twice on this peg, however - haven't I said that before?

Gary Thorpe
Ton Up Baits & Penguin Books
Has told a few stories about what's in his nets but for once got pressured into a meaningful guesstimate!
Dave Wightman
Simons 2000
The combination of good angler and good peg proved to be a winner again with just short of 200lb for the Simons 2000 matchman. Even his boxer short are reputed to be held up with Hydro Elastic - Blue or Red, Dave?
Did
you fish this match and I've missed out (or messed up!) some of the details?
