REVIEW

Rolfslake Match Fishing Carp Winner

Winner Dave Hoare (A34)

Happy New Year for Dave.

Dave Hoare (A34)   Oxford based Dave Hoare (A34) started the New Year of with a bang on Peg 14 at Rolfslake. Careful plumbing was the key to his success as Dave took time to located the notorious 'bar' the Peg is well know for. As such, Dave plundered the 14.5m line for the five hours to return a better than usual stamp of fish for the peg with fish ranging from 4lb - 8lb. The added bonus was that Dave was into fish not long after the off and worked at his bites for the full 5 hours. A good start to the New Year with a net busting 122lb 8oz (A little heavier than the Christmas Turkey!)

Gary Thorpe (TUB) Drawn on one of the most consistent pegs this winter, Peg 17, was TUB backed Gary Thorpe. Gary started fishing at 16m with sweetcorn and pellet. However, with just 1 fish and a bumped bite in the opening period things look less than OK, especially with Dave going well just to Gary's right. A change to 13m produced a fish almost immediately - and from here on in Gary worked a putting a few fish together for runners up spot with a competitive 89lb.

Elsewhere. Once again the cold wind resulted in fewer bites but fish are moving around the lake. For those wanting to sit it out for Carp there seemes to be at least a couple of fish more than willing - However, more than just the odd fish is the requirement to frame at the moment. As such, plenty of pegs presenting the age old question of 'shall I attack the swim?'

Silver fish in most pegs but feeding required to get them consentrated enough to make a big weight. Although most anglers still content with a late switch to chase the Silver fish coin. Anyone who sets out to catch silvers from the off should pick up at least some coin. With 11lb possible in less than an hour, most Silver fish coins have been won with less than 15lb this winter! maybe a result of the Carp feeding well into December. With mild weather forecast this week expect better weights next weekend. (If not flooded!!!!!)
