(Ton Up Baits) Rocked the current UK/European Record (417lb) and
nudged the World Record (419lb we think? - replies to admin@rolfslake.co.uk)
with a new Match Record weight of 403lb 12oz from
Peg 24 - but that is only the start of the story!
On
a day when sitting in the draw hut seemed a better prospect, the
Carp and Trevor had other ideas. The Ton Up Baits backed
angler spent no time in settling into a decent run of fish. However
a freak accident witnessed him loosing his pole to a double figure
Carp. Reaching back to adjust a top 2 set on his left,
Trevor had rested the pole between his legs in an effort to get
the top set. In a flash a Carp took the off with his
hook bait and Pole in tow!
Not
to be out done by the Carp, Trevor jumped in Rolfs trusty boat -
without a paddle - and proceeded to paddle after his pole using
only his hands. Many Jokes and a few close calls later
the desperate angler got hold of his pole and retrieved the Carp
of 12lb's. Trevor returned the fish with weighing it
as he had left his peg to capture it - actually it eventually left
pegs 21,22,23,18,17,16 and 14 respectively.
Knowing
a big weight was on the cards, when the scales eventually totaled
403lb 12oz it turned out to be bitter sweet result for the Oxford
based angler. To be fair to Trevor he has not stopped
smiling, and the fact that he returned such a weight in little over
4 1/2 hrs of angling is a credit to his ability. Although
his rowing skills could do with a little work.
The
400lb barrier has only been breached by a handful of anglers around
the world and Trevor should be congratulated as such.
I
promised Rolf that I would not mention anything about the boat starting
to sink as Trevor paddled back - so I won't. (Rolf,
boats don't work well with holes in 'em!)
Elsewhere,
Pete Coxhead - Windsor Angling and taken a 258lb from Peg 8 and
Second Place. The 3rd place was contested by 3 anglers separated
by less than 2lb, John Bennet 169lb 12oz, Gary Thorpe 169lb and
Perry Stone 168lb.
