Carp go to the 'Bar' for Saturday Lunch R Guppy (Hounslow Angling) made the most of a good draw with 149lb 8oz from Peg 37 in the early morning Saturday match. Having noticed other anglers taking fish up in the water R Guppy also plundered the odd fish shallow for the first hour and a half. Not happy with his catch rate, he switched to fishing on the deck in his 3ft deep peg. Having plumbed up at 16m, he found the top of the bar that runs between this peg and peg 4 on the far bank. It was here he concentrated his on the deck approach. It was not long before he found himself into consistent sport and cruised in the mid 100's. An earlier switch may have given him more fish but there again maybe not so many fish would have settled on this loose fed pellets, who knows? On peg 8, sat a very happy Gary Thorpe. With the peg in such hot form the combination of good peg and angler promised a big weight. With 145lb10oz you think Gary would have been happy! but Gary had to put up with a plague of 'dog' roach that fed without care on his pellet offerings. Another Good Peg/Angler combination with Ginger (Slapheads) and Peg 10 produced a nail biting 145-00 for third place. Not for the first time in recent week the top ten was divided by one Carp. Rolf remains confident that in the coming weeks someone will exceed the 400lb barrier for the first time in the UK. With so many fish still in a spawning mood, weights have been down for a long month. But Rolf knows they will feed in numbers in the not so distant future for those wishing to have a go.
