REVIEW |
||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Mid Week Frosts had dropped the water temperature to 48 Deg from 50 Plus of last week. However, warm sunshine in the morning did its best to redress the situation! Drawn on Peg 8, Talksport Radio's Keith Arthur soon found himself into fish on the infamous 'drop off' that dominates this summer hot spot - in fact Keith was featured on Sky Sports fishing the very same peg! In an attempt to distract others from his early run off sport he repeatedly shouted out the Man Utd/Newcastle score - and at 6-2 there was, as is usual, little to keep the ever popular 'TV Mega Star!' quiet. (That's all your getting for a fiver Keith) Fishing at 8m and tight to the far bank, Keith took fish for most of the five hour match and even returned a few Chub, two of which nudged 6lb! (Just Imagine how many a decent Chub Angler could of caught?) All the same Keith returned a winning 110-08-0 for a popular win. The smaller half of the lake (Pegs 34 - 40 & 1 - 8) had mostly started very slow but as the day went the fish put in an appearance and all corner pegs featured in the overall top 10 (34,38 & 4.) In the main lake a battle for the lesser frame places had taken place between Pegs 27 - J Lees, 24 - Andy Johnstone and Peg 15 the Ton-up-Baits backed Gary Thorpe. The early pace had been set by Andy Johnstone but sporadic periods and a few lost bigger fish proved his undoing with an eventual 100-00-0 and 3rd place. Gary Thorpe looked as if he had taken the honors with a flurry of fish to 10lb in the closing 2 hours. Unfortunately, long fishless periods in the early part of the match left him just 8oz short of 2nd place and a well deserved 'Ton-up' bag with 99-08-0. (If I plug Ton-up any more can I have a free bag of Pellets???) It was Oxford Match Group's John Lees that took runners up spot with 20 plus Carp for 106-04-0, John caught throughout the match and pushed Keith to the wire. Reports after the match included the loss of at least 4 by 20lb plus fish by individual anglers. To top this, also at least 3 by 6lb Chub had been taken and the odd 4lb Orfe had frustrated the fish saving NO Silver fish rule - once again it is this rule that keeps the fish in fantastic quality! Maybe soon a 7lb Plus Chub will show? (see Sunday Results??)
