| Prior to the draw there were a great deal of Carp topping right across the lake and a good match looked to on the cards. However, how many times has the weather dominated matches in recent weeks? Too many, I hear Rolf cry and cry! Just as we also could have predicted the wind got up as forecast and fishing at 16m at 50cm deep was scrapped from the proceedings. In fact, Rolf reported that 10m seemed about the maximum anyone fished, but it was how short that some of the top anglers fished that dominated the post match 'car park chatter.' Fresh from his victory in the Easter Festival (Thanks again to Mark Sawyer, Rolf.) it was Mick McDermott (Strike Mossella) drawn on vogue Peg 4 that stormed away from the pack with a magnificent 155-04. Mick fished away from the bank at the bottom of the shelf and a little bit out for his fish. Unable to get consistent sport from the flavored location he was forced to edge away from the bank until a few more bites were forthcoming. Fishing Meat & Pellet on the hook over Pellet feed he fished towards Peg 5 (left) at around 7m. Meanwhile, local regular John Lees (Oxford MG) was drawn at 28 and found the wind impossible. John introduced lines at 4 and 6m and took fish consistently from each line. He was however hampered with shy bites and 'liners' and catching so close meant the chance of spooking the mass of feeding fish at his feet. John put together a creditable 151-00 for second spot and a good days return. In third place was P Jones from Steven's Tackle (1st of 5 in the top 10!) - little did he know that he was drawn on one of the most out of form pegs on the lake - and to boot, no one had told him that the bush to the right didn't hold any fish! As such, he proceeded to take 108-00 for third place from exactly there! Doh. A little more than the poxy 25lb I had off there last! The rest of the top ten was well contested with Kevin Arathoon (Cokeheads) topping the ton on Peg 27 with 103-00. Kevin fished at 3 and 7m with meat and pellet. All anglers took fish from the deck and again many fish fell to the meat. Rolf was sure a big weight was on the cards if the wind had not of got a bit. There you go, and I thought that 151lb was a good weight? Not wishing to point fingers at anyone, nor have a dig, but!!!!! A quick note on keep nets - Anglers are reminded that a minimum of 2 nets (3 is better) should be used. One net should contain fish from 0-3lb and another for fish from 3-7lb. All fish over 8lb are to weighed, dipped and returned at once. Please ensure that your net is suitable for Rolfs lake! e.g. a BIG BIG one! (or 3!) - Sorry to moan, but without the fish the lake would be useless. “Book Early for the Next Weekend - Few Pegs remaining” |
